An evening at the club.
Set within an art gallery, Black Iris brings together comfortable rooms, a speakeasy bar, a full kitchen and a cigar lounge. A place to settle into conversation, share a meal or spend a quiet hour with your own company.
Our invitation is extended to touring artists and their parties, with the details arranged personally before arrival.
Guests, first.
Your time here is your own. There is no expectation to perform, make an appearance, meet fans or provide publicity.
Invited parties receive complimentary club access and a welcome courtesy, such as drinks or cigars, coordinated with their representative.
Third floor · Black Iris
Richmond’s Green Room.
Upstairs, Richmond’s Green Room gives the third floor its own identity within Black Iris—a setting for time with your party, conversation and a pause between engagements.
Your hosts can discuss including the Green Room in your visit and confirm access, service and privacy arrangements with your representative in advance.
The music in these rooms
A Richmond music address.
From the studio.
Long before the private club, this Broad Street address was a place where music was made. The building once housed Sound of Music, and later became home to Black Iris’s recording work—a creative setting for musicians, composers and collaborators.
The studio’s renovation brought acoustically treated recording spaces, control rooms and writing lounges into the historic building, preserving the original hardwoods and architectural character alongside the spaces built for listening.
To the room.
That studio life grew alongside a live-music and arts programme. By 2015, Black Iris was presenting intimate evenings that brought music, film and performance together; a Richmond magazine account records appearances by Nelly Kate, Todd Chandler and Mirah.
Today’s club carries that creative history into a more personal setting. For a visiting artist, the connection is close at hand: a place shaped by making music, hearing it together and spending time among people who value it.

Room to be yourself.
Discreet hospitality is personal without being intrusive: a welcome that lets you settle in, with attention to what your party needs and respect for the time you want to yourselves.
A considered staff presence.
Before your visit, your representative and host discuss the level of attention you prefer—when to check in, how food and drinks should be served, and when to leave the group undisturbed. These agreed preferences guide the hosting team, with a designated contact for requests during the evening.
Introductions, photography and any mention of the visit are part of that conversation. Let us know the boundaries your party needs so we can confirm the arrangements with you in advance.
Privacy, arranged personally.
Your hosts coordinate with your tour manager or representative on timing, party size, arrival and departure, and the spaces available for your visit. Sensitive travel or security details are best discussed privately with your host.
A visit to a private members’ club does not automatically mean sole occupancy. If your party requires exclusive use, additional staffing or specific security arrangements, we will discuss what can be accommodated and confirm the details before you arrive.
